Miami Design District, a united city to support valet services. The agreement between the Miami Parking Authority and Miami Design District Associates LLC will help financially support valet parking services in a growing neighborhood of shops and luxury companies in north I-195.

At the December meeting, the city's Off-Street Parking Board agreed to a unanimous agreement.

Money from a special trust fund will fund the operations of the Miami Design District Associates (MDDA) of seven valet parking stations using 29 parking spaces on the road in the Design District.

A background memo from the CEO of Art Noriega said the Miami City Design District Improvement Committee met on November 19 regarding the Miami Parking Valet Parking Service - Funding Agreement between parking authorities and MDDA.

"MDDA, through its subsidiaries and affiliates, currently owns property in the Design District and as a result, has spent a large amount of funds to provide parking facilities," the memo said.

The design of the Regional Parking Trust Fund, which is managed by parking authorities, is intended to facilitate parking within the district. Money from the fund will pay for maid service.

The agreement calls for funds to pay a parking authority of $10 per day to use each of the 29 rooms for five years. During the additional five-year extension period, the funds will pay authority of $15 per day for each room.

The new agreement outlines the total amount and when a lump sum payment must be made.

For the initial period, from January 1 to December 31, 2023, a total of $529,250 must be paid on December 31, 2018. For updates from January 1, 2024, until December 31, 2028, a $793,875 lump sum must be paid on the first business day of the term .

The city code forms a parking repair trust fund for the Coconut Grove Business District and separately for the Design District.

Each trust fund receives payments from property owners and developers who fulfill the conditions given for relief for the required off-street parking space; the payment in lieu of providing the space needed.

Parking authorities manage each trust fund, and funds can be withdrawn to facilitate parking within the specified area, including off-street parking, infrastructure upgrading and maintenance, and marketing of the area.

Money from a trust fund can be used to:
  • Obtain interest on land and other real property for parking.
  • Build, maintain, operate, rent, manage or provide off-street parking facilities for public use.
  • Provide public information to increase parking including publicity campaigns, graphics and signage, and other information devices.
  • Coordinate plans for upgrading or expanding parking facilities in connection with public transport plans and nearby operations, especially shared facilities that may be carried out in connection with Metrorail and feeder services.
  • Provides accessibility to off-street parking facilities such as public shuttles, tram services or trolleys or related repairs such as bus stops and right-hand modifications.
  • Perform related activities such as improving infrastructure on public roads, contributing to the maintenance of public sidewalks within the business district, and marketing purposes.
